A learning package is one file: a quiz bank, plus who wrote it, what licence it carries, who it is for, and sometimes a short piece to read first. Anyone can write one, and the good ones are often nothing to do with school. How to mix paint. How to build a model aeroplane. How to tie a knot that holds. Those count here exactly as much as long division does.
These came with Genkan. None of them is live until you say so.
How paint actually behaves: the primaries, tints and shades, why mixes go muddy, what complementary colours do to each other, and how to not wreck a brush. Written for a child of about nine and up who has a paint set and wants their pictures to stop turning brown. No art class needed and nothing here is on a curriculum.

Nobody has checked a stranger's answers for you, and a wrong answer takes minutes off a child for being right.
Writing one is the most useful thing anybody can do for this project and it needs no code:
docs/CONTRIBUTING-CONTENT.md is written for a person who is not a programmer, and
portal/quizzes/community/ has a worked example to copy.

| What is built | The format, the validator, and
bin/genkan-pack to validate, install, list and remove. An installed package behaves like
any other bank: same grading on the server, same difficulty ramp, same cooldown, same daily cap.

| What is not built | Nothing suggests a package to you. The plan is that a parent gets
told when a package would suit one of their children, based on what that child actually likes. That
does not exist. Genkan has no telemetry and talks to no cloud, so it will never be a service that
watches your family and recommends things. It will be an agent that YOU run, on your box, reading your
own database. The evidence half of that already works today:
bin/genkan-quiz-suggest <child> prints what one child has been doing, and
bin/genkan-pack list prints what is on the shelf. Paste both into your own AI agent and
it can tell you which package fits. docs/runbooks/quiz-suggestions.md has the recipe.
Turning that into a line on this page is a later job, and it is honest to say it is not here. |
| What is not supported | Pictures, audio and video. A package is text and links, and a link
may only point at the reading list, because those are the only sites a child who has run out of time
can open. A painting module cannot ship a photograph of a colour wheel yet.

What a quiz is worth, and how often. Set it once for the house, then change it for one child if you need to. Leave a box empty and it follows the line above it.
| Rest between goes | How long a bank sits quiet after a child has had a round of it, pass or fail. Six hours by default. It is what stops a kid taking the same quiz twenty times until the answers fall out. Set it to 0 and there is no rest at all. |
| Most a day | The most minutes a child can earn from quizzes in one day, across every bank. Thirty by default. Hitting it is framed on the portal as "maxed out for today, nice work", never as a telling off. Set it to 0 to switch quiz earning off for them. |
| Perfect round bonus | Extra minutes for getting every question right. Five by default. It counts towards the daily cap. Set it to 0 to turn it off. |
| A pass pays | What a pass is worth when nothing more specific says otherwise. A bank's own figure wins, and a price you set for one child on a bank wins over both. |
These take effect on the kids' portal within a minute. Nothing here touches the network, and nothing here can take away minutes a child has already earned.
Every badge below is earned against a child's own history, never a sibling's, so the youngest in the house can hold just as many as the oldest. The house board is off. Kids still see their own badges; nobody sees a comparison.
The board never ranks anybody by total minutes or total passes. It spotlights whoever
improved most lately, tried the widest range of subjects, bounced back best after a flop, or read up
the most, and it changes often, so it is not the same child every week. See docs/GAMIFICATION.md
